Frequently Asked Questions About Cabinet Hardware

Browse through the answers we offer to the most commonly asked questions by our customers.  Find answers to cabinet hardware questions from A to Z.

After I order my product, how long will it take before it arrives?

In general, we have over 95% of our cabinet hardware products in stock.  It takes us one day to process your order and then approximately four days for it to be shipped to you.  Anne at Home products take slightly longer, since they are custom ordered.  Should your order be backordered, we will ship what we can and then ship the remaining part of the order when it arrives.  This usually takes 7-10 business days.  If your cabinet hardware delivery is split into two due to backorders, you will not incur any extra shipping charges.  For expedited shipping, please speak with our customer service center at 800-530-TAIL(8245).

How is my cabinet hardware shipped?

We ship all orders via FedEx, UPS Ground or USPS Priority Mail. In the continental U.S., orders over $100 that come from one warehouse receive free shipping and orders under $100 ship for only $7.50. Please see our Shipping and Return Policies page for more detailed information about our free shipping offer.

Do you ship to Alaska?

We can ship to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands via USPS Priority Mail. For additional information and shipping quotes, please call our customer service center at 800-530-TAIL(8245).

I live in Canada. Can I pay for my order in Canadian dollars?

All orders from Kitchen Cabinet Hardware must be paid for with U.S. Dollars. Please be aware that we do not ship to Canada at this time.

Are screws included with my cabinet hardware?

1" screws come standard with all cabinet hardware, but if you need different screws, you can receive them easily by calling our customer service department and requesting them.

Some drill center measurements for cabinet knobs and cabinet pulls are listed in inches, while others are listed in millimeters. Why?

Drill centers are measured in inches by American companies and in millimeters by European companies. 3 inch or 5 inch drill centers are standard US options, and 96mm (approximately 3¾ inches) is the European standard.

How can I convert from inches to millimeters and vice versa?

To convert millimeters to inches, divide the number of millimeters by 25.4.
To convert inches to millimeters, multiply the number of inches by 25.4.

What is the benefit/drawback of buying cabinet pulls or handles with standard drill centers?

It is equally easy to install cabinet pulls with both standard drill centers and nonstandard measurements. The size of the drill center is relevant mostly for replacement cabinet pulls and handles, or for those concerned about replacing their handles in the future. Buying hardware with standard size drill centers will give you more options when looking to replace your cabinet hardware, since many styles will fit into the existing holes. If you are replacing existing cabinet handles, you must measure the drill center to make sure that your new hardware selection will fit into the existing holes. If your hardware choice does not match the current holes, you can either choose a complementary backplate to cover the previous holes, or find a different cabinet hardware style that will suit the existing holes.

I need five pairs of hinges; should I place 5 or 10 in my cart?

Hinges come in pairs unless otherwise noted, so if you need 5 pairs of hinges, you will likely only need to place 5 items in your cart. If the hinges are sold separately, this will be noted on the product page; then you will need to place 10 individual hinges in your cart.

What else must be purchased to complete my kitchen?

No kitchen is complete without a proper system to keep its content organized. After you have decided upon your cabinet measurements, choose complementary pull out shelving systems, Lazy Susans, pull out trash cans, towel bars and drawer organizers that will help keep your cabinets and drawers efficient and tidy.

Sturdy and decorative hardware is also a wonderful way to complement your new cabinetry. Browse our extensive collection of cabinet knobs and pulls to find a style that will add to the beauty of your new kitchen.

What are the differences among all of the metal hardware finishes?

When browsing different hardware styles, many of the finishes may look the same to the naked eye. This is not an optical illusion; many of the finishes are remarkably similar in appearance. However, each metal finish boasts its own unique properties that contribute to its durability. Each finish also has a slightly different metallic hue that may make a dramatic difference within your space.

For a comprehensive explanation of the different metal finishes, please refer to our Guide to Hardware Finishes.
